A Time Of Dread by John Gwynne | Review
Dear John, As a book blogger who thought that she had already read the best in fantasy, is outrageously proved wrong and now isn’t really sure how I am going to write this review. I want to do A Time Of Dread justice, I want my blog readers to pick this one up and above all I want them to feel the emotions that you wrought upon me. The feelings that I got when I opened the book until the point when I closed the end cover and took a deep breath, as I realised that I hadn’t just read a book but had consumed art. The Fantasy genre Is…

The Reluctant Mother by Hemmie Martin | Review (Audio)
The Reluctant Mother. How many times is this a glaring foghorn in many women’s lives? This story was a bit of a throwback for me personally. I didn’t suffer with Post-Partum Psychosis but quite severe PND with my first child. I was a brand-new mother at the tender age of nineteen and was now faced with the reality of a disabled son. It was raw and grieving to a point and unfortunately the bonding wasn’t as immediate as I had hoped. The story is raw and slow – paced but it is everything that it needs to be. It’s 369 pages of pain and misguided mistakes. A mother. The image…

Leash and Other Horror Stories by Brett Schumacher | Review
When I spotted Leash and Other Horror Stories up for grabs for review, I could have chewed their hand off! I am a subscriber to Brett’s awesome YouTube channel and I just couldn’t wait to get my grubby mitts on this seriously creepy horror anthology. This collection of deviously good stories warrants the shouting that I’m about to do! His narrative style is both mind-blowing and wickedly disturbing in equal measures and it immediately transports you into the depths of his orchestrated shadows – it’s terrifying and bone chilling. I’m a huge fan and I gobbled this up just as fast as I would a cake! Leash had a paradoxical…

Misfits by Hunter Shea | Blog Tour
misfits /ˈmɪsfɪt/ noun a person whose behaviour or attitude sets them apart from others in an uncomfortably conspicuous way: “a motley collection of social misfits” The definition behind the word is a whole spectrum of meanings. What is your definition of normal and do you fit nicely inside it. I would probably class myself as a bit of a misfit, I don’t follow the crowd, I don’t follow trends and I’m a massive geek. This is a story about a group of five friends, those who have never fitted in, who have never fitted into that perfect mould that society has deemed, normal. The stoners, the kids with traumatic childhoods and…

Diabolica Britannica: A Dark Isles Horror Compendium by various authors
How the hell do I write this review? Diabolica Britannica is quite frankly everything that is good about the horror fiction genre neatly compacted in a kick ass anthology. The genre is producing some of the best fiction out there at the moment and it’s getting harder to get scared and shocked but this awesome work of art packs a swift punch to jugular. A Dark Isles Compendium instantly took me to the freezing and rugged coastline of the Scottish highlands, the brutal streets of London and the isolating manor houses watching your every move, so it can make theirs! As much as I love the genre, sometimes, the titles…

Strangers by C.L. Taylor | Review
How to describe a stranger? Someone you’ve yet to meet. Do they wish you ill harm or are they a person who lives along the same confines and laws as you? Strangers is three stories that interweaved with each other’s. A calming hand in a storm of pain? What do these three stories have in common – compassion, understanding an humility. Our three main protagonists Ursula, Gareth and Alice are lost souls swimming in a sea of pain and desperation. They are jaded with life – they’ve all been handed a shitty hand of cards. Divorce and cheating, death of a loved one and caring responsibilities has these characters looking…
