Review: I’m Thinking of Ending Things by Iain Reid
How many times do we witness in the media about the importance of good mental health? How many people think – I’m thinking of ending things? It’s everywhere, except when its not. How long does checking on those family and friends that need us most last? Probably for the duration of mental health month…sad fact but true. Iain Reid has the insane ability to leave you feeling listless, inherently scared but not fully knowing why – initially. The opening has an almost poetic eeriness seeping into your psyche – you can imagine the scene…quietness, the darkness of night and you have the creeping feeling that you need to run, but…

Review: Docile by K.M. Szpara
Wow, if Docile has afforded me one thing – its that I am eternally grateful for how my life is (even with the current health crisis.) Docile has nailed it home just how easily the world and humanity can sink into the depths of depravity and self-indulgent when capitalism rules with an iron fist. It is a stark reminder of just what I don’t want life to be like. If you’ve ever wondered what life would be like if you were able to do as you wished, then read Docile – it’s a shocking portrayal of the rich getting richer and the poor becoming more objectified and more desperate. The…

Review: The Ice Dragon by George R.R. Martin
This little book is a family favourite in our house. I originally heard it on audio years ago and fell in love with the beauty of the story. Anyone that knows me, knows that I am a massive fan of GRRM. I read the Song of Ice and Fire series before I got around to this gem, but I could never be disappointed with GRRM beautiful prose. The illustrations are the finishing touch to a beautiful yet devastating story. No-one can write fantasy and capture the magic just like George can. He brings life and vitality to his characters, they grow up with us, they stay with us and we…

Review: Dazzled By Jane Harvey-Berrick
It’s always going to be a difficult task to go against the grain of what appears to be a much-loved popular book. I know reading is very much a personal thing, but I feel I need to get my views on paper. I felt I needed a break from the thrillers/police procedurals/fantasy novels that I love so I randomly picked a romance novel from my goodreads TBR. Alas I started reading Dazzled. On first sight it looked like a cute, quick fun read. It was penned as a New Adult novel, and I’m afraid after reading it I felt quite concerned at the message that it was portraying to girls…
