Whispers of You by Catherine Cowles

    March 25, 2023 / No Comments

Whispers of You is the whole damn package – seeping emotion and action. A raw story about grief, trauma and a love that can never die. WOW, I need a glass of something cold! If you are currently trying to decide what book to pick up this weekend then please by the power of Zeus, let it be Whispers of You by Catherine Cowles. I seem to be on a bit of a romance genre binge at the moment and when I feasted my eyes on this pretty book cover I was a goner. Goodbye, see you later, you won’t see my for-dust kind of entrapment. This book had me…

Wrath of the Land by Oli Jacobs

    March 23, 2023 / 1 Comment

Wrath of the Land reads like an invitation to Lovecraft’s love child. Accomplished storytelling that ensures that Jacobs has a revered seat at the horror table. Wrath of the Land is yet again another stellar outing by Oli Jacobs. I’m not sure just how this author keeps getting better and better, but he simply does. He has developed his own brand of comedy horror and I felt this story is his best yet. The writing style reminded me of A Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. I won’t ever get over the feeling of familiarity every time I read one of Jacob’s stories. It emits a sense of coming home after…

Wait For Me by J.M. McKenzie – BLOG TOUR

    February 7, 2023 / 1 Comment

Wait For Me is a dystopian tale that skillfully balances love and danger. Although there is a zombie apocalypse going on in the background McKenzie keeps the focus on the characters. Her creativity is on display throughout. Horror is really amazing at the moment. We are blessed with having such a wide range of sub-genres to get our teeth into. Nothing makes my black heart come to life more than Dystopian and Zombie horror stories. I don’t know why as consumers of horror we allow ourselves to enjoy tales of survival that at the centre are viruses that create zombies that will feast on your flesh if you aren’t quick…

Candles, Bullets & Dead Skin by L. Stephenson

    November 23, 2022 / No Comments

Candles, Bullets & Dead Skin is a testament to the skill of Stephenson. Stories that seep into your nightmares in the wee small hours and make your brain bleed with the incessant itching his imagination produces. Candles, Bullets & Dead Skin is an absolute tease of a collection. Three tales that tackle hard-hitting themes such as gender identity and skin disorders. It left me wanting more and more and I know from reading L. Stephenson’s The Boatmore Butcher series that this is only the first rung on the ladder on the way to the heights of shockingly visceral horror writing that he consistently pulls out of his magician’s bag. If…

The App by Stuart James – REVIEW

    October 21, 2022 / 2 Comments

The App – Stuart James has got his feet well under the horror table with this visceral tale that will unnerve its readers. A book to make you deactivate EVERYTHING! Never opening a link has never been as important as it is with The App. Marty Benson receives a link to win 100k every Friday from his best mate. He’s not one to look a gift horse in the mouth and it’s come from his friend, Davey. He’s as straight as a dye so he knows it’s legit. Marty and his family have a comfortable life – nice house, reasonably well off, a daughter acing her studies and is to…

Cold From the North will undoubtedly insert D.W. Ross into the fantasy landscape with ease.  A fantasy book that has reminded me why I love the genre so much.  Ross weaves an atmospheric tale of survival and intrigue.
