To Sleep in a Sea of Stars by Christopher Paolini |Review
To Sleep in a Sea of Stars more accurately to sleep through the damn book. This was nothing like I had been expecting. It didn’t hold my attention and very much felt like a plot that is seen through -out the genre but without any aspect of originality. I know this is an unpopular opinion, but this nearly drove me to tears. The characterisation suffered for the plot and it was hugely disappointing. Although there is action within the first few chapters; it just lacked any punch or emotion, even at this point I wasn’t sure if I should plough forward. To Sleep in a Sea of Stars is very…

The Doors of Eden by Adrian Tchaikovsky | Review
The Doors of Eden is just one of those books that will blow your mind to freaking shreds! If I had one thought at the end of reading this tome, that was, that my teeny tiny brain just pales into comparison with some of the greatest minds in our world. I was in awe; I was in heaven but most of all that science fiction itch was scratched to the bone! If you haven’t read any of Adrian Tchaikovsky, have you been sitting underneath a freaking rock? He has written an immense number of books but ashamedly I haven’t read any of the others, rectifying that immediately. Let it…

Review: Docile by K.M. Szpara
Wow, if Docile has afforded me one thing – its that I am eternally grateful for how my life is (even with the current health crisis.) Docile has nailed it home just how easily the world and humanity can sink into the depths of depravity and self-indulgent when capitalism rules with an iron fist. It is a stark reminder of just what I don’t want life to be like. If you’ve ever wondered what life would be like if you were able to do as you wished, then read Docile – it’s a shocking portrayal of the rich getting richer and the poor becoming more objectified and more desperate. The…

Review: Calamity by Brandon Sanderson
Failure is refusing to fight. Failure is remaining quiet and hoping someone else will fix the problem. Damn the final book in this outstanding series was so perfect for me. I loved every second of the journey. I despaired, I rejoiced, I felt the heartbreak and I laughed. It’s been an original plot with the best characters and Brandon Sanderson’s narrative is addictive. He draws you in with the promise of the tastiest piece of luxurious chocolate…I couldn’t resist! If I thought that the first book couldn’t be topped in the series, I was wrong. Wrong to the power of ten. Calamity was amazing! Just how do you deal with…

Review: A Memory Called Empire by Arkady Martine
A Memory Called Empire is by far the cleverest and poignant debut I have had the pleasure of reading. It’s the type of read that leaves you trying to find the remnants of your scrambled brain. Your senses are scattered, the books only made it through by the skin of its teeth – you gripped it so hard, it’s in danger of being strangled! In order to love a book, you need something that speaks straight to your heart, it drew out unbreakable connections, the electricity snapping between us. The book feels like a breathing entity, it knows how you tick, how you operate and moulds itself into everything you…
