The Girls in the Cabin by Caleb Stephens – BLOG TOUR
The Girls in the Cabin is every parent’s worst fear. Cancel everything because this is one of the hard hitters of the summer. The definition of a page turner. After a chilling opening, meeting Clara Carver was like a double-edged sword. You knew there was something quite off about her, but you couldn’t help but feel the darkest recesses of her pain. The undercurrent was dark and dangerous, and I felt queasy with the implications. That feeling never once left me and I walked straight in, blind to the repercussions, dazed when they hit me like a bullet ricocheting past me at all angles. The Girls in the Cabin was…

Mother Knows Best by Kira Peikoff
Mother Knows Best highlights just what happens when obsession drives ulterior motives. It was a story that I enjoyed but certain aspects irritated me. It’s fiction, yes, and sometimes you have to suspend disbelief when reading it, even so, a lot made me say “really?” The characters were well-developed, and their backstories played a significant role in the unfolding storyline. However, Jillian’s decisions were misguided and seemed to fall out with her scope of intelligence. I’m not saying we can’t make rash decisions occasionally, but she was always one step ahead in the game. So, we have the difficult theme of child loss. Clare, the main protagonist is dealing with…

The Resort by Sarah Goodwin
I was excited to read The Resort mainly because I love the idea of characters being stranded in the remote wilderness. I don’t think there’s anything much more threatening than blizzards and snowstorms keeping you stuck in one place. The cold seeping into your bones, the lack of visibility, the body’s senses being assaulted, and the subsequent confusion setting in. You begin to wonder if you’ve seen that shadow and question if you’ll ever see the blue of the sky again. I liked the main protagonist and her story of a torn childhood, but I couldn’t fully invest myself in the story for multiple reasons. Mila and her husband Ethan…

Here to Stay by Mark Edwards
Here to Stay is another example of why Mark Edwards is one of the most prolific mystery writers of our time. Any writer that wants to learn the art of the twist should spend time reading his novels. Well, I thought that my husband had the worst in-laws possible but maybe I was wrong! Here to Stay is a cautionary tale about never letting your in-laws come to stay. They’ll get their feet under the table, all cosy and relaxed, and the next thing you’ll know they’ll be looking at furniture in Ikea and redecorating your sitting room. Just the thought of it brought chills down my spine. Here to…
