The Creeper by A.M. Shine – REVIEW

    October 26, 2022 / No Comments

The Creeper scared the living crap out of me. A.M. Shine pulls out all the stops to make you realise that the dark is where evil lies, and where evil lies death will surely follow. His pure storytelling isn’t easily matched. The Creeper is one of the most phenomenal horror stories I’ve had the pleasure of reviewing. I’m not going to lie I’ve sat on this review for four days – how would I find the words to do it justice? How could I describe the plot which had me gripping my kindle with a force that could rival the hulks? Nothing will be enough to highlight the story’s vice…

The Hunted by P.R. Black – REVIEW

    July 28, 2022 / No Comments

The Hunted is a compelling journey through the human psyche. A perfect story to see in the Autumn months. The Hunted follows a very familiar premise – a group of friends have a reunion in a remote location. This follows a very different path, however, a path with treacherous signs, a path with whispers in the wind, creeping shadows edging into the periphery of your vision. What’s it like to be hunted? The fear, the anxiety, the resignation of the inevitable. Many of us will never know these feelings but Black takes us there, balancing on a knife’s edge. The visual imagery takes us there. It takes us to hell…

REVIEW: The Marsh House by Zoë Somerville

    May 20, 2022 / No Comments

The Marsh House seeps in atmospheric brilliance. It has the uncanny ability to remind you just how boring your life is. The novel tackles relationship breakdowns from multiple angles. A mother and daughter. A house in the country. Creepy diary entries. Personally, living in a cold, damp property in the middle of winter is a dead cert no for me but the protagonist had a story to unfold. It’s December 1963 and Malorie escapes to the country with her daughter, Franny. Her life is changing far quicker than she could have ever anticipated. Her relationship with Franny’s father, Tony has broken down. Partly due to his multiple infidelities and Malorie’s…

Review: The Tale of the Tailor and the Three Dead Kings by Dan Jones

    October 21, 2021 / 1 Comment

The Tale of the Tailor and the Three Dead Kings is a medieval ghost story that was immortalised in the early fifteenth century.  Dan Jones has based his retelling upon the original Latin scripture of the story.  You can feel the authentic, old-time feel to the storytelling.  The dialogue, the mannerisms, and the interpretations were at one with the story being told.  The introduction sets up the story nicely and pushes you to think more deeply about the time in which the tale Is told.  The story flowed beautifully even if it was super short.

The Watchers was a punch to the jugular.  This was a quick read, I had to find out what was going to happen next.  The author pulled out the rug from under me on more than one occasion.  A must-read for the spooky season!
