It Came From The Darkness by P.J. Blakey-Novis et al | ARC Review
It Came from The Darkness is a charity anthology featuring some of the absolute best in horror fiction. It is compiled by Red Cape Publishing and Phillip Rogers PR 101 in aid of Max the Brave Fund. What I really enjoyed about this anthology was the 100-word piece allowance – it gave a teaser of what could be but largely left you hungering for more! The stories were deep, dark, and dangerous…it was stories in amongst stories. It felt like unravelling a Russian Doll. One thing was for sure – this book felt like two faces of an old coin – It Came from The Darkness but so many different…

Starving Ghosts in Every Thread by Eric LaRocca | Review
I have a problem. I really do not know how to articulate into words this review! I know, I know it sounds super dramatic, BUT Starving Ghosts in Every Thread is a compact work of art! The opening chapter had my mind running wild. The beautiful narrative, in its almost poetic monologue had me captured like a fish on a hook! Eric LaRocca has pushed the limits between horror and symbolism. I had the distinct feeling that I was reading one thing but LaRocca was inviting you to look further, to peel each disturbing layer back until you had the full story. Our protagonist, Teddy is a girl that is…

The Doors of Eden by Adrian Tchaikovsky | Review
The Doors of Eden is just one of those books that will blow your mind to freaking shreds! If I had one thought at the end of reading this tome, that was, that my teeny tiny brain just pales into comparison with some of the greatest minds in our world. I was in awe; I was in heaven but most of all that science fiction itch was scratched to the bone! If you haven’t read any of Adrian Tchaikovsky, have you been sitting underneath a freaking rock? He has written an immense number of books but ashamedly I haven’t read any of the others, rectifying that immediately. Let it…

Nightmare Asylum & Other Deadly Delights by Sonia Kilvington & Craig Douglas | Review
Anyone that has stuck around long enough knows that horror is my favourite genre, and I will lap up anything that is creepy, haunted, or plain dark. I love a good horror short story collection and the opportunity to review this was an extremely exciting prospect. There are eighteen stories in all, and they all fall within the realms of horror, thriller, and suspense. I always think it’s especially hard to review a collection of stories because there is always going to be ones you love and ones that don’t mould particularly well with your tastes. Nightmare Asylum was a good selection, and it was a fun ride! That beauty,…

A Time of Blood by John Gwynne | Review
Please allow me a moment to breathe before getting into the guts of my A Time for Blood review. I absolutely fell in love with A Time for Dread but book two blew my mind. I have the utmost respect for John Gwynne’s writing style and his prowess of delivering a story with such raw intensity. It’s a completely different type of magic. I’ve got so many ARC copies I need to read at the moment but I just couldn’t deny what the heart wants – and it wanted to carry on with this series just like the body needs oxygen to breathe! Better a hard truth than a kind…
