The Redemption of Callie & Kayden by Jessica Sorensen
The Redemption of Callie & Kayden is heartbreakingly beautiful. With that dozy of a cliff-hanger left at the end of coincidence I just knew it wouldn’t be long before I picked up the next in the series. It’s been quite some time since I’ve got my teeth into the Romance genre and I’d forgotten how much drama can be packed into a 350 page book. I’m not complaining but I could feel the whiplash starting to take effect, it was a fun ride. So the book takes off pretty much where it left off. Kayden is in a critical condition in hospital after suffering multiple stab wounds inflicted by his…

The Whispers by Heidi Perks | Book Review
Whispers is a poignant but brutal slashing to chest kind of read. A tale of manipulation, jealousy and control. In order to fully fall for a book, you to need to find something that really speaks to you. A book that draws out connections, a book that aches to be heard. It’s a book that knows how you as a reader, ticks. The ease and rawness that flows from out with the pages is like liquid gold – rare and stunning. Whispers has an addictive pull that ties you down and won’t let go until the last sentence has seeped into your pores…chores be damned! This story excels in taking…

The Wife by Shalini Boland | Book Review
The Wife was typical of the genre. It was set up with an ambiguous event that would implicate the characters and future events. We were given loaded dialogue, a perfect husband and family but something missing, there’s always something missing. The prologue sets the tone; apparently everyone knows that the events don’t add up, but the protagonist, Zoe, is just living in blissful ignorance. I didn’t enjoy this one as much as the last Shalini novel I read, but that’s not to say this isn’t a good book, I did want to race through the chapters but, the believability was niggling in the back of my mind. The Wife examines…

Madhouse by Miguel Estrada | Review
Madhouse is a nice and quick read and the plot was engaging at kept me turning that page. A story that has dysfunctional families at its core and the vulnerability of children. Lucas is a little boy full of life until he hears his parents exchanging cross words in the family home. What child wants to think about his parents splitting up? What child wants to spend his time in two different households? What child wouldn’t do anything to keep his parents together? Lucas’ methods aren’t entirely sensible but alas they are the actions of a child and it is the actions of grown adults that are completely to blame…

Sins of the Father by Sharon Bairden | Blog Tour Review
Sins of the father. History tells a tale that is resonated through time. Children are a product of their upbringing. Children have to suffer through their parents’ misdeeds and endeavours. Often children have a nice and wholesome upbringing but more often a lot of children do not. Sins of The Father is a tale that documents a quite frank abysmal upbringing of our protagonist, Rebecca through to adulthood and the impact abuse can have on an individual. Life is anything but easy but there are factors that could significantly ease that journey. I am a complete goner for stories like this. I love the atmosphere, the story-telling of something so…

A Prayer For The Broken by Mark Tilbury | Blog Tour
A Prayer for The Broken is an accurate testament that we shouldn’t fear creepy crawlies or heights – it is human’s that hold the key to breaking us open. They have all the tools to completely alter our psyches. I’m not ashamed to admit that this book held me in rapturous anticipation. I hated characters with every fibre of my being and wanted a serious accident to befall them. This psychological thriller chilled me to the very core but boiled my blood in the same sentence. It has only solidified my viewpoint that people do such evil things in the name of religion. Eleven-year-old John McCormack has lost everything. His…
