Blog Tour: Ouija by Zoe-Lee O’Farrell
Ouija is a book that needs to be read by all fans of Point Horror, Fear Street and Goosebumps. Boy, has reading this eerie story taken me back to my first experience of reading for fun! It gave me the chills, the excitement and it brought me a taste of nostalgia. I won’t lie, I had a lurking sense of trepidation going into this story. Could I still get on board with Teen and Young Adult based narratives? Did it have a storyline that I could still connect with? Fear not, as it delivered on all those and still managed to get my adrenaline pumping. Reading Ouija taught me that…

Review : The Nothing That Is by Kyle Winkler
The Nothing That Is by Kyle Winkler was a huge surprise. Adrenaline and mystique keep the reader engaged. We get everything that we could possibly anticipate from an excellent Cosmic Horror. Winkler sets impossibly high standard from the get go. That exquisite level of imagination is continued throughout the novella. Trust Winkler and his vision, he doesn’t steer you wrong. The Nothing That Is is a creation that lives in the deepest recesses of a brilliant mind. His writing never once failed me. I love Cosmic Horror and the accuracy and shock value entranced me. The plot is a dangerous roller-coaster of strangeness and obscurity. It’s the perfect stage for…

Review: The Iron Crown by L. L. MacRae
The Iron crown is an ethereal vision of adventure and female badassery. Fenn has been cursed by the Myr. He can’t remember anything; He has no memories of where he’s come from, no memories of friends or family and he doesn’t know if he’s been put on this earth to do good or bad. The story takes off at such a pace I was quickly lacing up my Nikes and racing for the finish line. “The Dragons are the guardians of tessar, spirits of life of guidance and protection. Without them we are nothing.” The formula that the author concocted in order to produce this was both unique and special.…

Review: The Goners by L. Stephenson
The Goners was a home run for L. Stephenson. The cover was ominous, secretive, and forewarned of the threatening shadows that lurked beneath the surface. It’s the kind of story that will become etched into your mind and you can’t put the book down until that last page has been devoured. Stephenson is a master storyteller that envelops you in atmospheric brilliance and complexity that will literally tie you up in knots. His brilliance is his reader’s weakness, and The Goners did not disappoint. This isn’t just another Horror – it is an experience. Set on the fictional island of Boatmore, we meet a Paramedic Liam and his team, with…

Review: Early Retirement by Luke Ethan Knight
Early Retirement is a novelette that packs the appropriate level of punch for the length of the story. The story development, the characterization and the level of suspense and intrigue had me turning the pages. With a science fiction backdrop, the horror enters almost immediately with the reader being immersed right in the middle of the story, I liked that – there was no messing around with backstories, character nuances, and hyperbole. It was laid out on a plate for the reader – you either took it or left it – I was happy to gobble it up! A story of such a short length is usually hit or miss…

Twisted: Tainted Tales by Janine Pipe | Review
Twisted: Tainted Tales is a horror short story collection by the amazingly talented, Janine Pipe. When I saw the hype behind her new collection doing the rounds on Twitter, I just knew I had to get aboard. I’ve been lucky enough to taste Janine’s unique brand of horror before and TTT is equally compelling. The shades of darkness are there to witness with equally horrifying results. The first story that drew me under her spell was When Doves Cry. This story has a very old-time feel. It gave me instant Dickensian feelings. The setting, the narrative, and the characterization felt like a drop in the ocean. I was one-minute treading…
