REVIEW – Welcome to Camp Nightmare (Goosebumps #9) by R.L. Stine
Welcome to Camp Nightmare is the ninth instalment of the hugely successful Goosebumps series aimed at pre-teens. This was a series that I became obsessed with as a child, and I wanted to revisit it to see if it still held up nearly twenty years later. I’ve started with Welcome to Camp Nightmare, number 9 in the instalment (I’m a bit of a rule-breaker ha-ha). This was my first outing into horror as a child and it’s been something that has been upheld ever since. I’m pleased to say that I still found this one enjoyable with plenty to keep the reader entertained. Billy has been shipped off to Camp…

Blog Tour: Camp Death by Jim Ody
Camp Death was my first story by Jim Ody but it certainly won’t be my last. I have really enjoyed checking out these point horror-type stories making a resurgence. From the prologue, I was intrigued and a little freaked out. A cracking storyline with a hard-hitting writing style. The story follows Richie, a boy still trying to find himself. Themes of unrequited teenage love, angst, and social awkwardness are relative to the problems of today’s teenagers. What I particularly enjoyed about this one was just how Jim Ody was able to transport me to the centre of the story, like in the middle of a perfect storm I anticipated the…

The Cousins by Karen M. McManus | Blog Tour Review
Today I’m happy to be a part of The Write Reads Ultimate blog tour for the highly anticipated, The Cousins by Karen M. McManus. Now, for a reader to be sucked into an author’s writing style, their narrative, they need the X-factor. Something that allows them to keep coming back…book after book. Karen M. McManus is no exception. There are so many reasons why I keep coming back for more with her stories. The air of mystery, the journey and most of all the care that is given to keep loyal readers. The Cousins is a story that is reminiscent of the I know what you did last summer trope. …

The Court Of Miracles by Kester Grant | Review
Thanks to Netgalley and Harper Voyager for an ARC of The Court Of Miracles. A retelling you say? A mash-up between The Jungle Book and Les Misérables? That was an instant moment of hell yes, I am reading that! The Court Of Miracles is the first book in what is anticipated to be a three-book series and boy if the other two can deliver on what Book 1 has done then Kester Grant is on to a winner. This Young Adult Fantasy brought everything to the table and more. Espionage. Political intrigue. Double crossing. The story flew through me much like an elegant swan preparing for flight. It was smooth…

Blog Tour| Crossing In Time by D.L. Orton
Crossing in Time truly does transcend genres, I never felt I was able to fully pin down a specific genre. It’s heavy in science fiction with a romantic element underpinning its DNA. It drums a love story through its veins, one that lasts the ages and time and you should be aware of this if you delve into its pages. I was gifted an audio copy of the book and I wasn’t disappointed at the realism and the sheer talent of the narrators in bringing this story to life. The passion they both felt for the story was conveyed and it made it a truly immersive experience. I’m such a…

Review: Harry Potter & The Prisoner of Azkaban
I Solemnly swear I am up to no good. Sirius Black is officially my favourite in the series. Anyone that can exist in Azkaban without having his soul dwindle into an empty pit deserves his happily ever after. Harry Potter is embroiled deeper and deeper into the dark workings of Voldemort. Each year his connection to him is a tangled web of mystery and suffering. Deceit and lies threaten to tear him down- loss of potential, loss of love and a deep ache that just festers. The only two anchors he has is Hogwarts and his best friends, Ron and Hermione. The summer at the Dursleys has been as terrible…
