The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
The Fault in our Stars is wrenching as it is lyrical. A perfect story, with a perfect cast. It will draw readers in and shatter their hearts. This was my first read of The Fault in our Stars it didn’t fail to have me in floods of tears. How is it that this book is so utterly perfect? It captivated my heart and soul and I fell endlessly in love with Augustus and Hazel. I failed to read this book until now because I felt that I wasn’t the intended demographic, but I shouldn’t have feared. Grief and pain is a universal emotion and this story brought it all out.…

The Nine: Origins by Kes Trester
The Nine: Origins is a promising introduction to this fantasy series. It is an ambitious mix of the supernatural and coming of age. Upon browsing Netgalley I found this intriguing book, the synopsis sounded awesome, and the book cover had me instantly hitting request. I was instantly hit with the passion and love poured into this book. Instantly I was hit with characters that sparked with life. Combing the elements, foresight, telekinesis, and the other six special gifts. It’s not easy to combine these elements into a fantasy story but Kes Trester achieved it with relative ease. The Nine: Origins is the first book in The Nine series. Blake Wilder,…

As Long as the Lemon Trees Grow by Zoulfa Katouh – REVIEW
As Long as the Lemon Trees Grow is a title that truly deserves book of the year. A compelling story that is incredibly important. Raw, visceral, wrenching and revelatory. Have you ever read a book so powerful that you couldn’t find the words to describe just how impactful and an important narrative that it pushes upon you? That’s exactly how I feel with As Long as the Lemon Trees Grow. I always think it’s a good thing to read outside your usual boundaries – YA isn’t usually my bag but with this cover and the heartbreakingly powerful story, I couldn’t resist. A story of survival in war torn Syria, I…

Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige | Review
Holy Crackerjacks, I am just now having any luck with my last couple of reads. Another massive disappointment for this Wizard of Oz retelling. This had massive potential, the premise is something that I would have totally been on board with. A dark edge to a classic story, a reversal of roles, do not trust anyone. I always thought that Dorothy was just a little too sweet, there was always surely a darker edge to her – you just can’t trust anyone that is that sugary sweet all the time! The potential to be swayed by power and possessions is a pull that very little could refuse. The very first…

These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong | Review
Apparently I’m the girl that just doesn’t get along with highly anticipated reads. I originally picked this book up because it sounded like an awesome premise. A romeo & Juliet retelling set in 1920s Shangai. I’m a massive fan of storytelling set in Asia but man alive, there is just no world building whatsoever. I didn’t feel transported to another time, I didn’t really get a feel for the culture or the way of life. I really needed more in that regard. The characterisation was weak. I didn’t feel connected to any of the characters. Juliet was written as a strong and independent woman but I just found her incredibly…

Blog Tour| Crossing In Time by D.L. Orton
Crossing in Time truly does transcend genres, I never felt I was able to fully pin down a specific genre. It’s heavy in science fiction with a romantic element underpinning its DNA. It drums a love story through its veins, one that lasts the ages and time and you should be aware of this if you delve into its pages. I was gifted an audio copy of the book and I wasn’t disappointed at the realism and the sheer talent of the narrators in bringing this story to life. The passion they both felt for the story was conveyed and it made it a truly immersive experience. I’m such a…
