Review: The Heroes by Joe Abercrombie
“Armour …’ mused Whirrun, licking a finger and scrubbing some speck of dirt from the pommel of his sword, ‘is part of a state of mind … in which you admit the possibility … of being hit.”― Joe Abercrombie, The Heroes What kind of magic does Joe Abercrombie spin? From first reading The Blade Itself I have become entranced at both his unparalleled skill of taking a small minor character and transforming them into huge players of the game, he also is a supreme creator of intricate plots. This has been my favorite installment of the series by far, the NORTH fascinates me. I loved the POV’s from Logen, dogman, and Black…

Last Argument of Kings by Joe Abercrombie | Book Review
Well shit…. Put a fork in me, I’m done. Between my recent readings of John Gwynne and Joe Abercrombie, this has finished me off. I have a book hangover that would rival some of my wilder student days spent drinking tequila on only a few hours sleep. These days it takes the recovery time of minor surgery to get over both drinking and books that are this bloody sublime! “I have learned all kinds of things from my many mistakes. The one thing I never learn is to stop making them.” Last Argument of Kings is the third and final instalment in the First Law Series and what an absolute…

The Doors of Eden by Adrian Tchaikovsky | Review
The Doors of Eden is just one of those books that will blow your mind to freaking shreds! If I had one thought at the end of reading this tome, that was, that my teeny tiny brain just pales into comparison with some of the greatest minds in our world. I was in awe; I was in heaven but most of all that science fiction itch was scratched to the bone! If you haven’t read any of Adrian Tchaikovsky, have you been sitting underneath a freaking rock? He has written an immense number of books but ashamedly I haven’t read any of the others, rectifying that immediately. Let it…

A Time of Blood by John Gwynne | Review
Please allow me a moment to breathe before getting into the guts of my A Time for Blood review. I absolutely fell in love with A Time for Dread but book two blew my mind. I have the utmost respect for John Gwynne’s writing style and his prowess of delivering a story with such raw intensity. It’s a completely different type of magic. I’ve got so many ARC copies I need to read at the moment but I just couldn’t deny what the heart wants – and it wanted to carry on with this series just like the body needs oxygen to breathe! Better a hard truth than a kind…

Deadly Vengeance by OMJ Ryan|Blog Tour
It’s safe to say that I never hesitate or falter when I see a new book released by OMJ Ryan in The Jane Phillips series – Deadly Vengeance continued the upward trend and didn’t disappoint. Deadly Vengeance has just cemented the notion that OMJ Ryan is now slotted in on my go-to-author list. This series just gets better and better. The drama, the non-stop action, the pace and the narrative that is always as sharp as a stiletto just has me coming back for more. What can I say, it’s like a drug. If you want a feel for how his other books had me hooked, check out my reviews…

Review| The House On The Lake by Nuala Ellwood
The House On The Lake. The synopsis, the atmosphere, the struggle. It held such incredible promise. A woman, Lisa is on the run from her husband, Mark. A woman and her three-year-old son, Joe. An impossible situation that finally breaks the woman – it gives her the edge and the courage to leave. She essentially kidnaps her son and goes on the run, a plan loosely concocted. She must make it to her friends Yorkshire cottage. A cottage on the lake. Rowan Isle House. A story told in dual timeframes. The plan didn’t account for how dilapidated the house would be. It’s no place for a frightened woman…no place for…
