The Apocalypse Strain by Jason Parent | Book Review
Funnily enough I really enjoy reading about viruses and the potential of how these can wreak havoc upon our world. Our world is hospitable to a deadly virus, you only must examine the spread of Covid-19 to see that we have the conditions that allows deadly viruses to destroy our way of living, our health and oftentimes take away our lives. The Apocalypse Strain enforces that knowledge when scientists in a Siberian Research Facility discovers a potent Pandora virus, something that we have never experienced before. Sergei is the lucky scientist to have discovered it but since then memories of his daughter’s death have been haunting him…alongside the voice of…

The End of Men by Christina Sweeney-Baird | Book Review
The End of Men is a truly unforgettable book and its insane ability to make you feel everything. The intensity and the raw and gritty edge this story has over other epidemic related narratives, gah, it just leaves you feeling wrought out. Imagine running a marathon – you’re out of breath and gasping…but whatever you do, don’t breathe on your fellow man! This is a book that I’m going to go back to, it deserves a second and third outing, its masterful and bleak and it certainly gets thoughts whirling around your head. The End of Men have some of the most badass, strong and awe-inspiring women ever to grace…

Generation Z by Peter Meredith | Book Review
Generation Z is a post-apocalyptic Zombie novel that didn’t hit home with me. It could have been something entirely different if the first half of the novel wasn’t being written solely for the second half. The cover instantly grabbed me, and it looked like it was right down my alley. Just from reading the first chapter I could tell that this series was a spin off from a much larger world and it did feel like I was missing out on a lot of the backstory and the world building in general. Generation Z did the zombie interpretation fantastically. The imagery and the fear were palpable, and I did find…

The Girl With All the Gifts by M.R. Carey | Review
The Girl with All The gifts. I really don’t know why it took me so long to get around to this one because it was simply amazing. I don’t know what I was expecting but this really wasn’t it. I think it made me feel everything so intensely because it was centred around the protagonist, a young child called Melanie. I raced ahead; everything was just so engaging that by the time I reached the end I felt wrought with emotional exhaustion. The zombie apocalypse seen through the eyes of a child. It really was a fresh and interesting take on the zombie novel. I’m a wee bit of a…

Blog Tour| Crossing In Time by D.L. Orton
Crossing in Time truly does transcend genres, I never felt I was able to fully pin down a specific genre. It’s heavy in science fiction with a romantic element underpinning its DNA. It drums a love story through its veins, one that lasts the ages and time and you should be aware of this if you delve into its pages. I was gifted an audio copy of the book and I wasn’t disappointed at the realism and the sheer talent of the narrators in bringing this story to life. The passion they both felt for the story was conveyed and it made it a truly immersive experience. I’m such a…
