Husband and Wife by K.L. Slater
Husband and Wife is yet another testament to K.L. Slater’s indelible skill of storytelling. I raced through this compelling, twisty novel. Where do I even begin with Husband and Wife? What did the title mean? Husband and Wife – they promise to look after each other in sickness and health, right? To support each other through the good and the bad. There’s a feeling of mutual respect and partnership. So, when Parker and his wife, Luna are involved in a very serious car accident, will they continue to honour their vows? The story is told in multi-POV’s, Laura, Parker’s mum, Luna, the wife and Parker, the husband. Laura has a…

Call Me Mummy by Tina Baker
Call Me Mummy was my second Tina Baker novel, and it will not be my last. Had me on the precipice of tears and rage all the way through. Call Me Mummy. Mummy. That’s all I hear all day, every day, or at least a variant of it. Mummy – especially when they’re after something, usually mum. Mum, get me a snack, help me with homework, where’s the clean clothes. Never had the name had such negative connotations. Tina Baker has somehow made the word have an entirely different meaning. Take the ingredients of a thriller. Complex characters, unreliable narrators, a tense atmosphere just to name a few. I’m used…

Nana by Mark Towse
Nana is seriously original. A beautifully dark rush of a novella. Perfectly pitched, brutal and viscerally entertaining. Nana’s can be full of wisdom and knowledge, but Nana’s can also be deadly. Having read so many horror novella’s, the content can be completely hit or miss for me, it usually doesn’t take long to work out if a story is going to work for me. Mark Towse made that decision easier, the first paragraph, hell, the first sentence reeled me in, like a hook in a fish. The seatbelt was engaged, and I was ready for the G-Force to strip my bones dry! A sense of dread, all encompassing tension made…

The Boatmore Butcher by L. Stephenson – BLOG TOUR
The Boatmore Butcher was a home run for L. Stephenson. The cover was ominous, secretive, and forewarned of the threatening shadows that lurked beneath the surface. It’s the kind of story that will become etched into your mind and you can’t put the book down until that last page has been devoured. Stephenson is a master storyteller that envelops you in atmospheric brilliance and complexity that will literally tie you up in knots. His brilliance is his reader’s weakness, and The Boatmore Butcher did not disappoint. This isn’t just another Horror – it is an experience. Set on the fictional island of Boatmore, we meet a Paramedic Liam and his…

The Soxorcist by Jamie Kort
From the screwed-up mind of the man who brought us the sex lives of sock puppets, we are given the gift that just keeps on giving in The Soxorcist. Think of a rip off of the horror movie, The Exorcist. Being completely candour – I fucking loved it – it was funny, entertaining, well written and just plain disgusting. The description had me in a tug of war between laughing and being completely shocked. I had whiplash. Books are my escape from a mad life. I don’t take them too seriously and I love it even more when books leave all the boundaries and expectations behind. I love a bizarro…

The Day After the Party by Nicole Trope
The Day After the Party is a fast-moving story about family and redemption. It was highly suspenseful, and I was gripped until the end. Parties are supposed to be fun, right? It’s full of drink, party food and good times – laughter and joy. But what happens when it all goes pear shaped? A memory lost of the entire night. A memory gone completely. Katelyn wakes up in a hospital bed after having an episode of Global Transient Amnesia. She has no recollection of the previous night at all and both her husband, Toby and her best friend, Leah are really worried about her. But luckily for us Nicole Trope…
