The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

    July 4, 2023 / No Comments

The Fault in our Stars is wrenching as it is lyrical. A perfect story, with a perfect cast. It will draw readers in and shatter their hearts. This was my first read of The Fault in our Stars it didn’t fail to have me in floods of tears. How is it that this book is so utterly perfect? It captivated my heart and soul and I fell endlessly in love with Augustus and Hazel. I failed to read this book until now because I felt that I wasn’t the intended demographic, but I shouldn’t have feared. Grief and pain is a universal emotion and this story brought it all out.…

    Alice Alone by Amanda Brookfield

    June 22, 2023 / 1 Comment

Alice Alone made me suddenly realise the impending sense of what’s to come. With my eldest child approaching his 16th birthday, it gave me a sense of dread of the empty nest syndrome that awaits me in the none too far away future. How will I react when they start flying the nest? It sounds absolutely horrid. A bit like Alice, I’m a stay-at-home mum that has devoted her entire life to rearing my children, the impending thought that one day soon, I won’t have them to constantly care for is a bit grim. Maybe I’ll start collecting dogs! The author nailed how women of Alice’s generation generally aspired to…

As Long as the Lemon Trees Grow by Zoulfa Katouh – REVIEW

    October 15, 2022 / No Comments

As Long as the Lemon Trees Grow is a title that truly deserves book of the year. A compelling story that is incredibly important. Raw, visceral, wrenching and revelatory. Have you ever read a book so powerful that you couldn’t find the words to describe just how impactful and an important narrative that it pushes upon you? That’s exactly how I feel with As Long as the Lemon Trees Grow. I always think it’s a good thing to read outside your usual boundaries – YA isn’t usually my bag but with this cover and the heartbreakingly powerful story, I couldn’t resist. A story of survival in war torn Syria, I…

    TBR Thursdays: 26th May 2022

    May 26, 2022 / 3 Comments

Anyone that knows me, knows that I keep adding to my TBR and buying more books that I don’t have time for let alone the shelf space. Call it an affliction but I prefer to call it love… the smell, the look and the pleasure I get from new books is something amazing. So what did I add to my goodreads TBR shelf this week? Lets take a look. Slice of Paradise: A Beach Vacation Horror Anthology An unknown danger lurks beneath the sand at a secluded beach. A couple encounters a deadly creature during their nighttime dive. A father fights to save his daughter from a harrowing nightmare. A…

COVER REVEAL: The Creeper by A.M. Shine

    February 28, 2022 / 1 Comment

Today on the blog I bring to you the much anticipated cover reveal for A.M. Shine’s new novel, The Creeper. I loved his first novel, The Watchers, you can check out my review here. So what is this book all about? Let’s see… The Creeper is a masterful tale of horror and suspense by one of Ireland’s most talented emerging authors. Superstitions only survive if people believe in them… Renowned academic Dr Sparling seeks help with his project on a remote Irish village. Historical researchers Ben and Chloe are thrilled to be chosen – until they arrive… The village is isolated and forgotten. There is no record of its history,…

Review: The Iron Crown by L. L. MacRae

    August 6, 2021 / No Comments

The Iron crown is an ethereal vision of adventure and female badassery. Fenn has been cursed by the Myr. He can’t remember anything; He has no memories of where he’s come from, no memories of friends or family and he doesn’t know if he’s been put on this earth to do good or bad. The story takes off at such a pace I was quickly lacing up my Nikes and racing for the finish line. “The Dragons are the guardians of tessar, spirits of life of guidance and protection. Without them we are nothing.” The formula that the author concocted in order to produce this was both unique and special.…
