The Collector by Anne Mette Hancock

    July 30, 2023 / No Comments

The Collector is typical of the Nordic noir genre – chilling, intelligent and wholly captivating. Perfect dialogue, haunting imagery, and difficult topics. A mysterious blurb. It ticks all the crime junky boxes. It makes my heartbeat and my nerves jangle. The cover makes me imagine scenes from some of my favourite scandi dramas. All of this combines to make The Collector a must-read for anyone who loves a good mystery. It will keep you guessing until the very end. Plus, the writing is sharp and engaging. One sentence is all it took to fall into the pages of the story. The characters are so down to earth, so relatable, people…

Review: Devil’s Fjord by David Hewson

    August 19, 2021 / 3 Comments

Dark and hypnotising. Devil’s Fjord is a Nordic based mystery that tantalises with its mystery and its intrigue. Devil’s Fjord really excels at displaying its tragic atmosphere. In its beauty is a life that is behind the times and traditional to the Faroe Islands. Its inhabitants are ruled by the waters and fishing is all they know. The young have vanished to find a life that will enrich them beyond anything they could find in Djevulsfjord on the isle of Vagar. Those that are left, find themselves in astronomical amounts of debt to the Thomsens. What they give with one hand they take with the other. Landowners and with owning…

Smoke Screen by Thomas Enger, Jørn Lier Horst and translated by Megan Turney | Review

    February 19, 2021 / 2 Comments

I was a little worried about reading Smoke Screen, not because I believed that it would be a terrible read but because I just loved Death Deserved so much and wanted Smoke Screen to have that lasting impact also.  This review is the proof that this writing duo know just how to deliver time and time again.  An intriguing title, a mysterious cover and a synopsis that promises to deliver a narrative balancing on a tripwire.  Enger and Horst have penned another addition that will create a shadow on my soul and leave me hungering to visit the Scandinavian Isles.  Smoke Screen is book two in the Blixx & Ramm…

Blog Tour: Death Deserved by Jorn Lier Horst & Thomas Enger

    February 3, 2020 / 9 Comments

Some publishers are just complete go-to.  Crime fiction and Nordic Noir are phrases that are somonis with Orenda Books.  This blog tour invitation for Death Deserved was an automatic YES YES YES.  Nordic Noir is a relatively new genre for me, but I am quickly falling head over heels.  It has restarted my heart and gave me a passion for crime fiction once more.  I couldn’t wait to get my grubby little hands on this exciting and riveting read.  I was expecting huge things from this superstar double act.  The anticipation was melting my brain.  The prologue created that taut tension that I crave and live for.  My eyes couldn’t…

Many Thanks to Anne Cater and Orenda Books for my copy of the book and my spot on the blog tour. All thoughts are my own. Wow another killer read from Orenda Books. This is my second blog tour in the Nordic Noir genre this week and wow wow wow. This genre is relatively new to me, but I am quite simply loving it. The intrigue, the mystery and the amazing landscape make it the perfect ingredients for a five-star read. This really was the perfect series to binge read on those cold autumn nights, I read it and loved it. Let’s just take a moment to appreciate that moment…

Thanks to Anne Cater from Random Things Tours for my spot on the blog tour. All thoughts are my own. You know when you receive an email about an ORENDA Books blog tour you just know you have to get on by any means necessary because it’s always going to be all kind of awesome.  Yes, Little Siberia is another kick Ass Thriller from Orenda and you aren’t going to want to miss this one!  Orenda Books just know what’s going to blow your socks off, they love a twisty, dark tale and this is no exception.  Buckle up because the whiplash coming your way is off the charts.  Tuomainen…
