We promised to keep each other’s secrets. Until they found the body…
My husband and I are fighting for our lives in hospital after a terrible car accident. But despite my pain, all I can think about is what our families will find behind our front door. The scarf that has been all over the news, belonging to a dead young woman with honey-coloured hair. I have to speak to the police before my husband can…
I’m drifting in and out of consciousness, but when I hear my wife talking to the police, accusing me of the murder of an innocent woman, a cold fear grips me. I know I’ve got a temper. That I’ve not always been faithful. Will they think I killed her?
I think of my wife’s jealous streak, of the lies she’s told our loved ones. But if I tell the whole truth, they’ll look into her past. And that will destroy me, too…
Two people fighting for their lives. Two people with secrets to hide. Who will you believe?
Husband and Wife is yet another testament to K.L. Slater’s indelible skill of storytelling. I raced through this compelling, twisty novel.
Husband and wife in true K.L. Slater style is yet another twisty thriller book.
In the Husband and Wife story, where do Parker and Luna even begin? What does the title mean? Do Husband and Wife promise to look after each other in sickness and health, right? Do they commit to supporting each other through the good and the bad? There’s a feeling of mutual respect and partnership. So, when Parker and Luna are involved in a very serious car accident, will they continue to honor their vows?
The story features multiple points of view: Laura, Parker’s mum, Luna, the wife, and Parker, the husband. Laura experiences a difficult relationship with her son and his wife, and it truly affects her. She used to have a wonderful relationship with him. However, the marriage to Luna brought significant problems. They didn’t visit often, she wasn’t invited to their home, and they rarely saw her grandson, Barney.
When a car accident leaves Parker in critical care and Luna with a broken pelvis, Laura and her husband rally round. Laura is confused by several things. Why were they traveling home when they were apparently staying overnight at a dinner dance? When she gets the keys to Parker’s home to collect some things for Barney, she discovers that the couple were sleeping apart. Their home is up for sale, and in a bag of discarded rubbish, she finds a silk scarf that is pertinent to a murder case of a girl called Sarah Greyson.
I really liked Laura’s character. She was a true mama bear who would stop at nothing to prove her son’s innocence. Running on little sleep and adrenaline, she tried to fill in the gaps of Parker’s days before the accident.
If you’ve read any of K.L. Slater’s books before, you’ll know that you’re in for a wild ride. Husband and Wife was no different. It’s a twisty rollercoaster of a read. The author grips you at knifepoint, with the knife edging further into your skin as the reveals unfold.
You’re nervous, excited, and scared all at the same time. I relished the horrors, and once again, I found myself wondering why the biggest evil of all is humanity. Forget ghosts and ghouls. People are the biggest threat. If you like your thriller books twisty then this is definitely one for you!
